2. FORECAST (15 OCTOBER - 21 OCTOBER)
MUFS: The ionosphere is currently depressed in the Aus/NZ
region. Depressed 15 to 30% expected remainder 15-Oct,
and depressions probable to persist (possible to a milder extent)
to 19 Oct particularly southern Aus region, after local dawn.
Propagation conditions: Fair-Poor 15-Oct Fair 16-19Oct.
T index: 20 Southern Aus region
50 Northern Aus region (after 15 Oct).
COMMENT: IPS HF Communications Warning 68 was issued on 14 October
and is current for interval 15 October only. Note that northern
Aus region mUfs became depressed 30-40% today (15 Oct) after about
02 UT. The ionospheric storm activity followed geomagnetic
activity induced by a solar coronal hole. The broad longitudinal
extent of the coronal hole is the reason for the anticipated
extended level of lower than normal MUF support.
3. OUTLOOK (22 OCTOBER - 21 NOVEMBER)
Degraded HF propagation conditions possible:
21-22 Oct
10-15 Nov
PLEASE NOTE:
At this time of the solar cycle, space weather conditions
are frequently determined by short timescale events, not
able to be forecasted a week in advance.
