COMMENT: Solar flare activity on UT day 7-Sep was R0, with no 
solar flares. There are currently 8 numbered sunspot regions 
on the solar disk. Active region (AR) 4530 (N19E21, beta) has 
shown some slight growth but remains a small region. All other 
sunspot regions are stable. Solar flare activity is expected 
to be R0-R1 over 8-10 Sep. On UT day 7-Sep 
a large CME was observed from 0212 UT but has been analysed as 
a farside event and therefore not geoeffective. A small filament 
eruption in the northeast solar quadrant was observed from 0804 
UT. A small CME was likely launched, but this event weakened 
to such a degree that it is unlikely to noticeably impact the 
Earth. S0 solar radiation storm conditions were observed on UT 
day 7-Sep. S0 solar radiation storm conditions are expected over 
8-10 Sep. On UT day 7-Sep the solar wind environment became disturbed 
from 0600 UT. The solar wind speed ranged from 345 to 500 km/s. 
The peak total interplanetary field strength (IMF, Bt) was 17 
nT and the north-south IMF component range (Bz) was +8 to -14 
nT with several periods of southward oriented IMF. The source 
of the disturbance was possibly a co-rotating interaction (CIR) region combined 
with a recent CME. The solar wind environment is expected to 
remain disturbed over 8-9 Sep due to CME arrivals on 8-Sep and 
then again on 9-Sep, with effects continuing into 10-Sep. Coronal
hole effects from the CIR are likely to linger over 8-9 Sep.

survey flight-line data.

COMMENT: ASWFC Geomagnetic Warning 54 was issued on 7 September 
and is current for 7-9 Sep. G0 geomagnetic conditions were observed 
in the Australian region on UT day 7-Sep. G0-G2 geomagnetic conditions 
were observed in the Antarctic region. G0-G1 geomagnetic conditions 
are expected on 8-Sep due to an anticipated CME impact, and then 
G0-G1 geomagnetic conditions with a chance of G2 are expected 
on 9-Sep due to a second impact. Residual effects are likely 
to continue into 10-Sep, giving a chance of G1 on this day.

COMMENT: HF radio propagation conditions were mildly variable 
on UT day 7-Sep, with some degraded conditions observed periodically 
throughout the day. Degradations were mostly observed at mid 
to high latitudes. HF radio propagation conditions may be similarly 
degraded over 8-10 Sep due to anticipated geomagnetic activity 
over this period.

COMMENT: ASWFC SWF HF Communications Warning 79 was issued on 
6 September and is current for 6-8 Sep. Maximum usable frequencies 
(MUFs) in the Australian region on UT day 7-Sep were near predicted 
values to 15% enhanced. Spread-F was observed in Hobart during 
local night hours. MUFs are expected to be mostly near predicted 
values over 8-10 Sep, with some high latitude depressions of 
15% possible over 9-10 Sep due to anticipated geomagnetic activity. 
Degraded conditions may be observed over 8-10 Sep.
