COMMENT: Solar activity on UT day 3-Sep was R0, with no significant
solar flares. There are currently six numbered sunspot regions,
although many have decayed into plague. The remaining spots are
all stable. Solar activity is expected to be R0-R1 over 4-6 Sep.
Several CMEs were observed on UT day 3-Sep, and while none are considered
geoeffective available imagery is currently limited.
S0 solar radiation storm conditions on UT day 3-Sep were S0.
S0 solar radiation storm conditions are expected over 4-6 Sep.
The solar wind environment on UT day 3-Sep was mostly near background
levels. The anticipated CME from 31-Aug may have arrived, but
no signature in the solar wind is visible. The solar wind speed
was mostly steady near 400 km/s over the day. The peak total
interplanetary field strength (IMF, Bt) was 9 nT and the north-south
IMF component range was +6 to -4 nT. The solar wind environment
is expected to be mostly at background levels over 4-6 Sep, although
brief enhancements are possible due to several small and fragmented
coronal holes near geoeffective locations.
