SUBJ: IPS DAILY SOLAR AND GEOPHYSICAL REPORT
ISSUED AT 2330UT/23 AUGUST 2014 BY IPS RADIO AND SPACE SERVICES
FROM THE AUSTRALIAN SPACE FORECAST CENTRE
SUMMARY FOR 23 AUGUST AND FORECAST FOR 24 AUGUST - 26 AUGUST
STATUS INDICATORS SOL:** YELLOW ** MAG:** YELLOW ** ION: ** YELLOW **
-----------------------------------------------------------
1A. SOLAR SUMMARY
Activity 23 Aug: Low

Flares: none.

Observed 10.7 cm flux/Equivalent Sunspot Number for 23 Aug: 132/86

1B. SOLAR FORECAST
             24 Aug 25 Aug 26 Aug
Activity Low to moderate Low to moderate Low
Fadeouts Possible Possible None expected
10.7cm/SSN 140/94 140/94 140/94

COMMENT: A number of C-class flares from AR 12146 (N10 W18),
12148 (N08 E03) and 12149 (N10 E51) with the largest a C6.0 at
1727 UT from AR 12146. A new region at S08 E71. Regions 12146
and 12149 grew while the other six regions remained mostly stable.
No Earth-directed CMEs observed in SOHO/STEREO images on 23 Aug
although SDO images appear to show an eruption associated with
the C6.0 flare. The solar wind speed decreased from ~360 to 280
km/s and the north-south IMF range was +/-4 nT. SOHO images for
22 Aug show two minor CMEs associated with AR 12146 events. The
position of this region indicates likely impacts, probably on
26 Aug.

Observed Regional daily pc3 Indices 23 Aug :
      Darwin 27 (Quiet to unsettled)
      Townsville 0 (Quiet)

      Canberra 0 (Quiet)

Pc3 pulsations are high frequency (10-45 second period) variations
of the Earths magnetic field. Daily pc3-indices are the daily sum
of 20 minute pc3-indices for that station and have been shown to be
well correlated with rejection of high resolution aeromagnetic
survey flight-line data.

NOTE: Indices may have been generated from data obtained in
cooperation with the following organisations: Geoscience Australia,
University of Newcastle Space Physics Group, Australian Government
Antarctic Division and International Center for Space Weather
Science and Education, Japan.

COMMENT: Disturbed periods possibly commencing around 12 UT on
26 Aug due to minor CME impacts. Level of disturbance will depend
on direction and duration of the north-south IMF.
