1A. SOLAR SUMMARY
Activity 12 May: Very low

Observed 10.7 cm flux/Equivalent Sunspot Number for 12 May: 68/2

COMMENT: Solar activity remains very low. Solar wind velocity
is steady at 320 km/s. Due to an expected solar sector boundary
crossing there may be a bump in the solar wind speed increasing
to 600km/s mid way through the UT day and then steadily decreasing
again. The IMF Bz component of the interplanetary magnetic field
fluctuated between +/-2 nT. No spots presently visible on the
solar disk at this time, however there is a active region on
the east limb rotating onto the solar disk that GOES 10 shows
to have likely caused several low level xray flares. As this
region rotates onto the earthside of the sun there is a slight
chance for a C-class xray flare.

Pc3 pulsations are high frequency (10-45 second period) variations
of the Earths magnetic field. Daily pc3-indices are the daily sum
of 20 minute pc3-indices for that station and have been shown to be
well correlated with rejection of high resolution aeromagnetic
survey flight-line data.
NOTE: Indices may have been generated from data obtained in
cooperation with the following organisations: Geoscience Australia,
University of Newcastle Space Physics Group, Australian Government
Antarctic Division and Space Environment Research Center, Japan.
