SUBJ: IPS WEEKLY GEOPHYSICAL REPORT
ISSUED ON 10 OCTOBER 2002, BY IPS RADIO AND SPACE SERVICES,
FROM THE AUSTRALIAN SPACE FORECAST CENTRE
1. SUMMARY (01 OCTOBER - 09 OCTOBER)
K indices are in UT (0-24). For conversion to local time:
AEST = UT + 10 hours; ACST = UT + 9.5 hours; AWST = UT + 8 hours
Australian Region*
Date K-INDICES A
01 Oct 2334 6545 33
02 Oct 4443 3224 19
03 Oct 4343 4544 26 A weak (21nT) impulse was observed in the IPS
magnetometer data at 0644UT on 03 Oct.
04 Oct 4356 4443 33
05 Oct 2324 5423 19
06 Oct 2322 1223 8
07 Oct 3343 4444 22
08 Oct 3433 4323 17 A weak (18nT) impulse was observed in the IPS
magnetomter data at 1405UT on 08 Oct.
09 Oct 2233 3332 12
*estimated from real time data
The north-south component of the interplanetary magnetic field has
remained predominantly southward over the past week. This has resulted
in mostly unsettled to active geomagnetic conditions with isolated
storm periods. The cause of the sustained southward IMF is unknown.
2. FORECAST (10 OCTOBER - 09 NOVEMBER)
Disturbed Periods:
27 Oct - 05 Nov
Best Quiet Periods:
20-22 Oct
PEASE NOTE:
At this time of the solar cycle, space weather conditions
are frequently determined by short timescale events, not
able to be forecasted a week in advance.
