[ips-sf] IPS Summary Forecast for 13 July - issued 0016UT/13-Jul-2012

rwc rwc at ips.gov.au
Fri Jul 13 10:16:22 EST 2012

An X-1 level solar flare was observed on Jul 12 in the large sunspot
group now at solar central meridian. Analysis of the event is still in
progress, but there is a chance of Earth impact from a coronal mass
ejection associated with this flare. If this occurs, geomagnetic and
HF radio propagation conditions may be disturbed, and auroral activity
may be visible at higher latitudes. Otherwise expect low to moderate
solar flare activity, with a chance of moderate to high activity.
Light solar wind. Geomagnetic conditions at quiet levels with isolated
unsettled periods. Short-wave radio fadeouts possible. High-frequency
radio communications normal at low to mid latitudes with some degraded
conditions at high latitudes.
