10 UT and is now around 500 km/s. The total IMF strength has
also climbed, peaking at 17 nT, currently around 11 nT. The Bz
component was mostly positive during 5-Jan, but has recently
been negative, to -8 nT. Disturbed solar wind conditions are
likely to persist during 6-7 Jan and start to ease on 8-Jan.

Observed Regional daily pc3 Indices 05 Jan :
      Darwin NA
      Townsville 0 (Quiet)
      Learmonth 0 (Quiet)

      Melbourne 6 (Quiet)

Pc3 pulsations are high frequency (10-45 second period) variations
of the Earths magnetic field. Daily pc3-indices are the daily sum
of 20 minute pc3-indices for that station and have been shown to be
well correlated with rejection of high resolution aeromagnetic
survey flight-line data.

NOTE: Indices may have been generated from data obtained in
cooperation with the following organisations: Geoscience Australia,
University of Newcastle Space Physics Group, Australian Government
Antarctic Division and International Center for Space Weather
Science and Education, Japan.

06 Jan 20 Active to Minor Storm
07 Jan 20 Active to Minor Storm
08 Jan 12 Unsettled to Active

COMMENT: IPS Geomagnetic Warning 2 was issued on 4 January and
is current for 6-7 Jan. Magnetic conditions were mostly quiet
across the Australian region on 5-Jan, with an unsettled period
15-21 UT. Active periods are expected on 6-7 Jan due to coronal
hole effects. Minor storm conditions at high latitudes are possible
on these days. Conditions should start to ease on 8-Jan.
