SUBJ: IPS DAILY SOLAR AND GEOPHYSICAL REPORT
ISSUED AT 2330UT/12 DECEMBER 2014 BY IPS RADIO AND SPACE SERVICES
FROM THE AUSTRALIAN SPACE FORECAST CENTRE
SUMMARY FOR 12 DECEMBER AND FORECAST FOR 13 DECEMBER - 15 DECEMBER
STATUS INDICATORS SOL:GREEN MAG:** YELLOW ** ION: GREEN
-----------------------------------------------------------
1A. SOLAR SUMMARY
Activity 12 Dec: Low

Flares: none.

Observed 10.7 cm flux/Equivalent Sunspot Number for 12 Dec: 154/109

1B. SOLAR FORECAST
             13 Dec 14 Dec 15 Dec
Activity Low Low Low
Fadeouts None expected None expected None expected
10.7cm/SSN 160/114 165/119 170/124

COMMENT: Solar activity was low over the last 24 hours, with
C-class flares from regions 2230 (S14W12), 2235 (S08E41) and
2234 (N04W08). The largest event was a C4 from region 2234, peaking
at 12/1439 UT. A spectacular filament lift-off from the northern
hemisphere in the early UT hours is unlikely to be geoeffective.
Low activity is expected for the next 3 days. The solar wind
speed rose to around 600 km/s. The IMF Bz component varied between
-11 and +7 nT.

      Mawson 33 54445354
      Davis 37 44654354

Observed Regional daily pc3 Indices 12 Dec :
      Darwin 23 (Quiet to unsettled)
      Townsville 0 (Quiet)

      Alice Springs 0 (Quiet)
      Gingin 6 (Quiet)
      Canberra 11 (Quiet)

Pc3 pulsations are high frequency (10-45 second period) variations
of the Earths magnetic field. Daily pc3-indices are the daily sum
of 20 minute pc3-indices for that station and have been shown to be
well correlated with rejection of high resolution aeromagnetic
survey flight-line data.

NOTE: Indices may have been generated from data obtained in
cooperation with the following organisations: Geoscience Australia,
University of Newcastle Space Physics Group, Australian Government
Antarctic Division and International Center for Space Weather
Science and Education, Japan.

2B. MAGNETIC FORECAST
Date Ap Conditions
13 Dec 18 Unsettled to Active
14 Dec 12 Unsettled
15 Dec 8 Quiet to Unsettled

COMMENT: Geomagnetic conditions were mostly quiet to unsettled
across the Australian region for the last 24 hours, with a brief
active period 12-15 UT, reaching minor storm levels in the south.
Active to storm level conditions were observed in the Antarctic
for much 12-Dec. Conditions are expected to become slightly more
settled on 13-Dec, though isolated active periods might recur
in the Australian region, especially in the south. Gradually
returning to quieter conditions by 15-Dec.
