SUBJ: IPS DAILY SOLAR AND GEOPHYSICAL REPORT
ISSUED AT 20/2330Z AUGUST 2006 BY IPS RADIO AND SPACE SERVICES
FROM THE AUSTRALIAN SPACE FORECAST CENTRE
SUMMARY FOR 20 AUGUST AND FORECAST FOR 21 AUGUST - 23 AUGUST
STATUS INDICATORS SOL:GREEN MAG:GREEN ION: GREEN
-----------------------------------------------------------
1A. SOLAR SUMMARY
Activity 20 Aug: Low

Flares: none.

Observed 10.7 cm flux/Equivalent Sunspot Number for 20 Aug: 88/32

1B. SOLAR FORECAST
             21 Aug 22 Aug 23 Aug
Activity Low Low Low
Fadeouts None expected None expected None expected
10.7cm/SSN 90/34 90/34 85/27
COMMENT: Solar activity has been low during the last
24 hours. Regions 904(S14W73) produced a few B- and
C-class flares, the largest being a C4.3 flare at
2109UT. A C1.5 flare from this region at 1344UT was
associated to a slow partial halo CME. This CME is
not expected to be significantly geoeffective on its
arrival. The solar wind speed remained between 380
and 410 km/s for almost the whole day today. The
north-south component of the interplanetary magnetic
field (Bz) showed moderate fluctuations (approx +/-10nT)
until 0500UT, then remained moderately (+10nT) positive
until 1100UT and then remained slightly (approx -5nT
to -2nT) negative for the remaining part of the UT day.
Solar activity is expected to remain at low levels for
the next three days. A coronal hole effect may cause
some strenthening of the solar wind stream on 21 August.

2A. MAGNETIC SUMMARY

Geomagnetic field for Australian Region 20 Aug: Quiet to active with
		minor storm periods.

Observed Regional daily pc3 Indices 20 Aug :
      Charters_Towers 0 (Quiet)
      Learmonth 0 (Quiet)
      Culgoora 6 (Quiet)
      Hobart 34 (Quiet to unsettled)
Pc3 pulsations are high frequency (10-45 second period) variations
of the Earths magnetic field. Daily pc3 indices are the daily sum
of 20 minute pc3 indices for that station.

Estimated AFr/Ap Indices 20 Aug : A
           Fredericksburg 22
           Planetary 25

21 Aug 10 Quiet to Unsettled
22 Aug 6 Quiet
23 Aug 5 Quiet
COMMENT: Geomagnetic activity remained mostly at quiet to
active levels with some periods of minor storm recorded at
some high latitude stations on 20 August. The activity is
expected to remain mostly at quiet to unsettled levels on
21 August with the possibility of further decline to mostly
quiet levels on 22 and 23 August.
