G4 planetary geomagnetic conditions have been observed at 17:45UT on
01-Jan. Australian geomagnetic conditions have reached the G3 level.
Conditions have since eased. Further periods of G3 geomagnetic
conditions are possible over 01-02 Jan due to ongoing CME effects.
Auroras may be sighted from high latitude locations such as Tasmania
and southern Victoria. Solar activity on UT day 01-Jan is expected to
be at R1-R2 levels, with a chance of R3. S0 solar radiation storm
conditions are expected. The solar wind speed is expected to be
moderate to strong. HF radio propagation conditions are expected to be
mostly fair to normal, with degradations likely due to geomagnetic
activity. Maximum usable frequencies are expected to be near predicted
monthly values to 15% depressed. Shortwave fadeouts are possible.
