On UT day 16-Apr solar activity is expected to be R0-R1. S0 solar
radiation storm conditions are expected. A moderate CME shock was
observed in the solar wind at 15/1637UT. The solar wind parameters
became enhanced post shock arrival, with the solar wind speed
increasing to strong. The strongly CME enhanced interplanetary
magnetic field (IMF) orientation has been variable, swinging both
northwards and southwards. The solar wind speed is expected to be
strong today. A second CME arrival is possible today. The regional
geomagnetic field has reached G1, following a weak sudden impulse at
15/1722UT and planetary conditions have reached G2. The geomagnetic
field is expected to be at G1-G2 levels today, dependant on subsequent
southward periods of IMF orientation. Australian regional HF
conditions were poor during the predawn period and have now improved
to fair. Maximum usable frequencies were depressed 20% just before and
after dawn and are currently 10-15% depressed in the southern
Australian region and near normal in the northern Australian region.
