Very Low solar activity is expected for today, UT day 16 May, with a
chance of C-class flares. The earth is currently under the influence
of moderately enhanced solar wind speed. Today the solar wind is
expected to further increase and may even reach very high levels in
response to the arrival of CMEs associated with erupting filaments.
The Geomagnetic activity in the Australian region is expected to be
initially Quiet and then may reach Minor storm levels during the
passage of the CMEs. There is also a chance of Major storm today.
High-frequency radio communication users are advised to use near
predicted monthly frequencies today over the Australian and below
monthly predicted levels over the Northern mid and high latitude
regions. Aurora may be visible on the local night of today from
Tasmania, coastline of Victoria and southwest coast of Western
Australia.
