The effect of the CME that arrived on 31 December, may keep the solar
wind stream strong and hence keep the geomagnetic activity enhanced to
minor storm levels on 1 January if IMF Bz shows sustained periods of
negative values. Aurora sightings are possible on 1 January. Minor to
significant degradations in HF conditions and depression in MUFs may
be possible on 1 and January.
