Wed Sep 18 13:37:15 EST 2013
New sunspot groups have appeared on the visible solar disk. Two of
these are located on the eastern limb and may develop in coming days.
At the time of this update, a substantial C-class solar flare is in
progress. It is associated with Active Region 1846 located on the
south east limb. Until further information about this region becomes
available, the outlook is still for low solar activity during the next
24 hours. The high speed solar wind stream expected to impact Earth
today is not likely to be an especially strong and will only lead to
minor geomagnetic activity. A major coronal hole is located in the
Northern Hemisphere and is approaching the central meridian of the
solar disk. High-frequency radio communications have been depressed at
low latitudes and near normal at mid latitudes and are expected to
remain close to monthly predictions.
