SUBJ: IPS GEOMAGNETIC DISTURBANCE WARNING 03/52
ISSUED AT 30/2132Z OCTOBER 2003
BY THE AUSTRALIAN SPACE FORECAST CENTRE.
The CME observed on 29 October arrived at 16UT (approx),
which is about 18 hours before anticipated time. The solar
wind speed went above 1100 km/s. The north-south component
of the interplanetary mangnetic field has gone south to
approximately -20nT. Major geomagnetic storm has already
started and severe storm is expected to follow. Major to
severe storm conditions are expected throughout the UT day
31 October. The geomagnetic activity is then expected to
decline to minor storm and then down to active levels during
the UT day 01 November.
INCREASED GEOMAGNETIC ACTIVITY EXPECTED
DUE TO CORONAL MASS EJECTION
