SUBJ: ASWFC DAILY SOLAR AND GEOPHYSICAL REPORT
ISSUED AT 2330UT/24 OCTOBER 2026
FROM THE AUSTRALIAN SPACE WEATHER FORECASTING CENTRE
SUMMARY FOR 24 OCTOBER AND FORECAST FOR 25 OCTOBER - 27 OCTOBER
STATUS INDICATORS SOL:GREEN MAG:** YELLOW ** ION: ** YELLOW **

1A. SOLAR SUMMARY
Activity 24 Oct: R0
Flares: none.
Observed 10.7 cm flux/Equivalent Sunspot Number for 24 Oct: 93/38
1B. SOLAR FORECAST
25 Oct 26 Oct 27 Oct
Activity R0 R0 R0
Fadeouts None expected None expected None expected
10.7cm/SSN 92/37 92/37 88/32
COMMENT: Solar flare activity on UT day 24-Oct was at the R0
level, with a single low-level C-class flare observed. There
is currently one numbered sunspot region visible on the solar
disk and one unnumbered region. Active Region (AR) 4560 (N13W65,
beta-gamma) has shown mild growth in its leader spots and is
now approaching the western limb. A small unnumbered region is
visible near S17W14 (beta) and is stable. Solar flare activity
is expected to be at the R0 level over 25-27 Oct. S0 solar radiation
storm conditions were observed on UT day 24-Oct. S0 solar radiation
storm conditions are expected over 25-27 Oct. No Earth-directed
coronal mass ejections (CMEs) have been observed. The solar wind
speed on UT day 24-Oct decreased, ranging between 420 and 365
km/s, and is currently near 365 km/s. The peak total interplanetary
magnetic field strength (IMF, Bt) was 5 nT and the north-south
IMF component (Bz) ranged between -4 to +2 nT. The solar wind
speed is expected to remain mostly near background levels over
25-27 Oct, though a mild enhancement may occur on 25-Oct due
to a glancing impact from a CME first observed on 21-Oct.

Pc3 pulsations are high frequency (10-45 second period) variations
of the Earths magnetic field. Daily pc3-indices are the daily sum
of 20 minute pc3-indices for that station and have been shown to be
well correlated with rejection of high resolution aeromagnetic
survey flight-line data.
NOTE: Indices may have been generated from data obtained in
cooperation with the following organisations: Geoscience Australia,
University of Newcastle Space Physics Group, Australian Government
Antarctic Division and International Center for Space Weather
Science and Education, Japan.
Estimated AFr/Ap Indices 24 Oct : A

2B. MAGNETIC FORECAST
Date Ap Conditions
25 Oct 16 G0, chance of G1
26 Oct 10 G0
27 Oct 6 G0
COMMENT: G0 geomagnetic conditions were observed in the Australian
and Antarctic regions and at the planetary level on UT day 24-Oct.
G0 planetary geomagnetic conditions are expected over 25-27 Oct,
with a chance of G1 on 25-Oct due to the glancing arrival of
a low-velocity CME first observed on 21-Oct.

24 Oct Fair Normal-fair Normal-fair
PCA Event : No event.
3B. GLOBAL HF PROPAGATION FORECAST
Latitude Band
Date Low Middle High
25 Oct Normal Normal-fair Fair
26 Oct Normal Normal Normal-fair
27 Oct Normal Normal Normal
COMMENT: Global high-frequency (HF) radio propagation conditions
were mostly fair over UT day 24-Oct. Degraded conditions were
observed particularly in northern hemisphere regions. HF conditions
are forecast to be normal to fair on 25-Oct, and mostly normal
over 26-27 Oct.
