SUBJ: IPS DAILY SOLAR AND GEOPHYSICAL REPORT
ISSUED AT 09/2330Z DECEMBER 2003 BY IPS RADIO AND SPACE SERVICES
FROM THE AUSTRALIAN SPACE FORECAST CENTRE
SUMMARY FOR 09 DECEMBER AND FORECAST FOR 10 DECEMBER - 12 DECEMBER
STATUS INDICATORS SOL:GREEN MAG:** RED ** ION: **YELLOW**
-----------------------------------------------------------
1A. SOLAR SUMMARY
Activity 09 Dec: Very low

Flares: none.

Observed 10.7 cm flux/Equivalent Sunspot Number for 09 Dec: 92/37

1B. SOLAR FORECAST
             10 Dec 11 Dec 12 Dec
Activity Low Low Low
Fadeouts None expected None expected None expected
10.7cm/SSN 95/41 100/48 100/48
COMMENT: US ACE solar wind speed data continued to rise from
600 to 700km/sec over the UT day. The north-south component of
the interplanetary magnetic field remained mildly southward over
the UT day. Elevated solar wind speeds and southward IMF conditions
expected to persist over next 5-7 days. There may be some indication
that old region 501 (old 484) is returning to the solar disk,
although it does not appear very bright this time around in US
SOHO EIT 284 imagery. Some structure also visible near solar
equator on east limb in H-alpha imagery. In addition some brightening
can be seen just south of the solar equator on the eastern solar
limb. Solar flare activity may possibly show an mild increase in coming
days.

Observed Regional daily pc3 Indices 09 DEC :
      Townsville 12 (Quiet)
      Learmonth 8 (Quiet)

Pc3 pulsations are high frequency (10-45 second period) variations
of the Earths magnetic field. Daily pc3 indices are the daily sum
of 20 minute pc3 indices for that station.

11 Dec 25 Active to minor storm
12 Dec 25 Active to minor storm
COMMENT: Recurrence suggests that an extended period of active
conditions with minor storm periods can be expected until 15
Dec.
