November 8, 2004
I observed a major aurora display as seen from Central New York State, Rome, New York, USA (Latitude - 43° 14.5' N, Longitude - 75° 27.1' E) on the evening of November 7, 2004 (November 8, 2004 UTC). The observing times were 0445 UTC until 0700 UTC. The aurora covered an area from the western horizon to the eastern horizon (facing north). A few of the Big Dipper Stars were visible. The rays of the aurora extended toward the zenith partially obscuring the Pleiades constellation. The aurora display consisted of Homogeneous Arcs, as well as Rays and Rayed Arcs. The colors of the aurora were mostly white with a touch of faint green. There was a considerable amount of movement in the Rays themselves. From anon at fakedomain.ips
stopped at about 0715 UTC and then started again at 0900 UTC, and it covered a very small area of the northern sky, approximately 30 degrees wide.
