About ips-hf-warning | |
ASWFC HF Warnings forecast disturbed/depressed ionospheric conditions in the Australian and New Zealand regions, and provide relevant HF frequency management advice - the amount of the expected depression and the latitudinal zones expected to be effected. The most common ionospheric response at middle-latitudes following overnight geomagnetic activity is a depression response. The ionospheric depression response impacts HF communicators more severely as existing frequencies of operation may become unusable. HF Warnings are therefore issued by the ASWFC Duty Forecaster when the forecaster expects vertical MUF depressions of 15% or more. Vertical MUF (foF2) values are obtained from autoscaled ionograms produced from Bureau od Meteorology ionosondes. Ionograms and autoscaled data are freely available in near real time on the ASWFC website at: ASWFC HF Systems section
