An R3 X1.1 solar flare has been observed at 23/0133UT and a weak solar
proton radiation storm has followed this flare. An S1-Minor solar
proton event is likely in coming hours. This flare has been assigned
to solar region AR3614(N17E06), with solar region AR3615(S13E12) also
flaring near the same time. Solar activity on UT day 23-Mar is
expected to be at R1-R2 levels. The solar wind speed is expected to be
light to moderate. G0 geomagnetic conditions are expected. G1 periods
are expected 24-25 Mar due to a coronal hole wind stream. HF radio
communication conditions are expected to be normal to fair. Maximum
usable frequencies (MUFs) are expected to be near predicted monthly
values to 15% enhanced in the Australian region. Shortwave fadeouts
are probable.
