Solar activity is expected to be at the R0-R1 level for 24-Mar. The
solar wind speed has been moderate, however the interplanetary
magnetic field has been southward since 23/1700UT and may be now
slowly returning to neutral after 24/0500UT. Geomagnetic activity in
the Australian region unexpectedly reached ASWAS G2 level last night.
The planetary Kp has reached G4 for one Kp period on 24-Mar. Due to
the sustained southward IMF orientation further G1-G2 periods are
possible in the local regional magnetic field around local midnight
tonight 24-Mar. The southern Australian region ionosphere was
depressed 20-40% after dawn this morning, with degraded HF
communication conditions, and is showing recovery after 24/0500UT. The
northern Australian region ionosphere is currently near to 40%
enhanced.
