Geomagnetic planetary activity has reached the G3 level and the
Australian regional geomagnetic field has now reached G2 level on
27-Feb. The geomagnetic storm activity is due to the arrival of a
recent CME. Solar activity on UT day 27-Feb is expected to be at R0-R1
level. The solar wind speed is expected to be stong due to the
combination of an equatorial coronal hole wind stream and arrival of a
CME first observed 24/2036UT. A second CME first observed 25/1938UT is
expected to arrive near 27/2100UT to cause continued geomagnetic
activity, with G1-G2 geomagnetic conditions generally expected, and a
chance of further isolated periods of G3. Australian region maximum
usable frequencies are currently near predicted values with the
exception of Hobart which has become depressed by up to 30%. Degraded
HF communications quality is likely during local night hours tonight
with degraded HF conditions continuing into 28-Feb. Depressed
ionospheric MUFs are likely after local dawn on 28-Feb, particularly
for the southern Australian region.
