rwc rwc at ips.gov.au
Thu Aug 27 16:31:19 EST 2015

Moderate solar flare activity with GONG H-alpha imagery indicating
region 2403 (S16W44) to be the source of the recent M2.3 flare (as of
0544UT). Coronal hole effects likely to influence the solar wind over
the next 12-24 hours. Geomagnetic conditions currently at Unsettled to
Active levels due to sustained southward Bz during local day. Should
Bz remain southward (and increase in magnitude) and/or solar wind
velocity rises above Moderate levels (Co-rotating Interaction Region
followed by Coronal Hole) Minor to Major Storm periods are possible
with Aurora sightings likely from southernmost Australian regions.
Short-wave radio fadeouts possible. High-frequency radio
communications fair to normal at all latitudes.
