Sun Mar 24 10:43:14 EST 2013

There are no major sunspot groups on the visible side of the sun. The
sun spot number is near 50 and expected to decrease further. From the
perspective of the Earth, the sun is entering another episode of solar
minimum like conditions. However, solar maximum conditions are far
from over. Space telescope observations of a strong CME launched from
the south west limb near 12 UT on 23 March show that the far side of
the sun is presently active. This CME is not Earthward directed but
Earthward facing solar activity will resume in weeks to come. The
solar wind conditions near Earth are presently moderate and are
expected to remain moderate during the next two days. Geomagnetic
conditions have been quiet to unsettled and are expected to remain
mostly quiet with brief intervals of unsettled conditions.
High-frequency radio communications are expected to remain close to
normal with significant daytime enhancements possible at some
stations. No short wave fadeouts are expected.
