SUBJ: IPS DAILY SOLAR AND GEOPHYSICAL REPORT
ISSUED AT 15/2330Z AUGUST 2009 BY IPS RADIO AND SPACE SERVICES

STATUS INDICATORS SOL:GREEN MAG:GREEN ION: GREEN
-----------------------------------------------------------
1A. SOLAR SUMMARY
Activity 15 Aug: Very low

Flares: none.

Observed 10.7 cm flux/Equivalent Sunspot Number for 15 Aug: 68/2

1B. SOLAR FORECAST
             16 Aug 17 Aug 18 Aug
Activity Very low Very low Very low
Fadeouts None expected None expected None expected
10.7cm/SSN 68/2 68/2 68/2

COMMENT: The visible solar disc is spotless. The solar wind speed
ranged from 310 to 280 km/s and is expected to remain in this
range or slightly above for the next 2 days. However, expect
the solar wind to increase to over 400 late in the UT day, 18
August due to a recurrent coronal hole.

2A. MAGNETIC SUMMARY

Geomagnetic field for Australian Region 15 Aug: Quiet

Estimated Indices 15 Aug : A K
   Australian Region 2 11111101
      Darwin 1 11100001
      Townsville 5 22211122
      Canberra 0 00000000
      Hobart 2 11111101
      Casey(Ant) 3 12211101

Observed Regional daily pc3 Indices 15 Aug :
      Darwin 0 (Quiet)
      Townsville 0 (Quiet)
      Alice_Springs 0 (Quiet)
      Gnangara 0 (Quiet)
      Canberra 0 (Quiet)
      Hobart 0 (Quiet)
Pc3 pulsations are high frequency (10-45 second period) variations
of the Earths magnetic field. Daily pc3-indices are the daily sum
of 20 minute pc3-indices for that station and have been shown to be
well correlated with rejection of high resolution aeromagnetic
survey flight-line data.

NOTE: Indices may have been generated from data obtained in
cooperation with the following organisations: Geoscience Australia,
University of Newcastle Space Physics Group, Australian Government
Antarctic Division and Space Environment Research Center, Japan.

Estimated AFr/Ap Indices 15 Aug : A
           Fredericksburg 2
           Planetary 5

Observed AFr/Ap Indices 14 Aug : A K
           Fredericksburg 2
           Planetary 4 1211 1111

2B. MAGNETIC FORECAST
Date Ap Conditions
16 Aug 4 Quiet
17 Aug 4 Quiet
18 Aug 12 Unsettled

COMMENT: Expect quiet levels of geomagnetic activity for the
next two days. However, late in the UT day on 18 August expect
an increase in activity to unsettled levels and possible active
levels at higher latitudes.
