SUBJ: IPS DAILY SOLAR AND GEOPHYSICAL REPORT
ISSUED AT 15/2330Z MARCH 2004 BY IPS RADIO AND SPACE SERVICES
FROM THE AUSTRALIAN SPACE FORECAST CENTRE
SUMMARY FOR 15 MARCH AND FORECAST FOR 16 MARCH - 18 MARCH
STATUS INDICATORS SOL:GREEN MAG:GREEN ION: GREEN
-----------------------------------------------------------
1A. SOLAR SUMMARY
Activity 15 Mar: Very low

Flares: none.

Observed 10.7 cm flux/Equivalent Sunspot Number for 15 Mar: 101/49

1B. SOLAR FORECAST
             16 Mar 17 Mar 18 Mar
Activity Low Low Low
Fadeouts None expected None expected None expected
10.7cm/SSN 100/48 105/54 115/66
COMMENT: Solar wind speed remains steady at around 460km/sec
over past 24 hours. The north-south component of the interplanetary
magnetic field was mildly southward over the UT day. A solar
filament has been reported to have disappeared from the face
of the solar disk between 00UT and 13UT on 15 Mar. Whilst this
filament was in a good geoeffective location (N22W28) a subsequent
check of LASCO C3 imagery (space based coronagraph) showed no
visible sign of a mass ejection.

Pc3 pulsations are high frequency (10-45 second period) variations
of the Earths magnetic field. Daily pc3 indices are the daily sum
of 20 minute pc3 indices for that station.

17 Mar 15 Quiet to unsettled, chance for active periods.
18 Mar 4 Quiet
COMMENT: Generally quiet conditions expected. The solar filament
may cause active periods on 17 Mar.
