SUBJ: IPS DAILY SOLAR AND GEOPHYSICAL REPORT
ISSUED AT 16/2330Z OCTOBER 2003 BY IPS RADIO AND SPACE SERVICES
FROM THE AUSTRALIAN SPACE FORECAST CENTRE
SUMMARY FOR 16 OCTOBER AND FORECAST FOR 17 OCTOBER - 19 OCTOBER
STATUS INDICATORS SOL:GREEN MAG:** YELLOW ** ION: **YELLOW**
-----------------------------------------------------------
1A. SOLAR SUMMARY
Activity 16 Oct: Very low

Flares: none.

Observed 10.7 cm flux/Equivalent Sunspot Number for 16 Oct: 95/41

1B. SOLAR FORECAST
             17 Oct 18 Oct 19 Oct
Activity Low Low Low
Fadeouts None expected None expected None expected
10.7cm/SSN 100/48 100/48 105/54
COMMENT: Solar wind speed has shown a mild but steady decline
over past 24 hours, starting the day at 600km/sec and is now
currenlt at 560km/sec. The north-south component of the interplanetary
magnetic field was again mildly southward by about 5nT for most
of the UT day. Solar wind speed expecte dto continue to decline
over next few days. Solar region 477 managed a tiny sub-faint
flare at 0258 UT. However, some new regions look like they will
rotate around the east limb (north and south of the solar equator)
over the next day or two (visible in SOHO EIT imagery). The region
north of the equator could be the return of old region 464 (moderately
complex, but only produced an M1 last transit) mentioned in yesterdays
report.

Pc3 pulsations are high frequency (10-45 second period) variations
of the Earths magnetic field. Daily pc3 indices are the daily sum
of 20 minute pc3 indices for that station.
