SUBJ: IPS DAILY SOLAR AND GEOPHYSICAL REPORT
ISSUED AT 13/2330Z AUGUST 2002 BY IPS RADIO AND SPACE SERVICES
FROM THE AUSTRALIAN SPACE FORECAST CENTRE
SUMMARY FOR 13 AUGUST AND FORECAST FOR 14 AUGUST - 16 AUGUST
STATUS INDICATORS SOL:** YELLOW ** MAG:GREEN ION: GREEN
-----------------------------------------------------------
1A. SOLAR SUMMARY
Activity 13 Aug: Moderate

Flares Max Fadeout Freq. Sectors
 M1/1F 1904UT possible lower East Pacific/
                                    North American

Observed 10.7 cm flux/Equivalent Sunspot Number for 13 Aug: 192/144

1B. SOLAR FORECAST
             14 Aug 15 Aug 16 Aug
Activity Moderate Moderate Moderate
Fadeouts Probable Probable Probable
10.7cm/SSN 190/143 190/143 195/147
COMMENT: Region 69 produced the M1.8 flare. This region is now
large and magnetically complex. Further flares expected. The
north-south component of the interplanetary magnetic field was
mildly southward (10nT) for most of the UT day. Solar wind speed
gradually declined 500-440km/sec as coronal hole effects reduce.
Some non-geoeffective CME activity observed behind the south-east
and possible north-east limb of the sun at aorund 03UT and 12UT
respectively. Previously flaring solar regions 39 and 44 are due
back to the south-east limb 17-18 Aug.
