Applications are invited for a Postdoctoral Research Associate
position in the Centre for Space Physics, School of
Mathematical and Physical Sciences, Faculty of Science and IT
at the University of Newcastle, NSW, Australia.
The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work on
electromagnetic ion cyclotron waves and
magnetosphere/plasmasphere dynamics in relationship to plasma
dynamics, particle populations, ring current decay and plasma
plumes, including heavy ions. Satellite data resident in the
Centre will provide the basis for analyses, complemented with
additional data. Modelling and simulation will also be
undertaken using existing and new codes, and collaborative
studies.
A recent PhD with a background in space plasma physics, and
experience of handling large datasets, and familiarity with
any of the following would be an advantage; LINUX, IDL,
C/C++. The position will commence as soon as possible with an
initial one year appointment, renewable annually for a further
two years. Funding is provided by the Australian Research
Council and salary will be A$57,579 per annum in the first
year, with annual increments of approximately A$4,000 in each
of the following two years.
