SUBJ: ASWFC WEEKLY GEOPHYSICAL REPORT
ISSUED ON 09 APRIL 2026
FROM THE AUSTRALIAN SPACE WEATHER FORECASTING CENTRE
ASWAS SCALE DESCRIPTION: https://bit.ly/3lmaMBx
1. SUMMARY (31 MARCH - 08 APRIL)
K indices are in UT (0-24). For conversion to local time:
AEST = UT + 10 hours; ACST = UT + 9.5 hours; AWST = UT + 8 hours
Australian Region*
Date K-INDICES A
31 Mar 1212 2111 4
01 Apr 2111 3212 6 In the BOM magnetometer data for 01
Apr, a weak (9nT) impulse was observed
at 1203UT.
02 Apr 3344 4543 25
03 Apr 3344 4544 26 In the BOM magnetometer data for 03
Apr, a weak (19nT) impulse was observed
at 1528UT.
04 Apr 2222 1132 7
05 Apr 3233 3311 11
06 Apr 1222 2222 6
07 Apr 2221 1312 6
08 Apr 1213 2122 6
*estimated from real time data
NOTE: Indices may have been generated from data obtained in
cooperation with the following organisations: Geoscience Australia,
University of Newcastle Space Physics Group, Australian Government
Antarctic Division and International Center for Space Weather
Science and Education, Japan.
G1 Geomagnetic conditions were observed on 02-03 Apr due to combined
effects from a glancing coronal mass ejection impact and a coronal
hole high speed wind stream. G0 geomagnetic conditions were observed
on other days.
2. FORECAST (09 APRIL - 09 MAY)
Disturbed Periods:
10-11 Apr, 16-20 Apr, 29-Apr to 01-May, 06-08 May.
Best Quiet Periods:
12-14 Apr, 22-27 Apr, 03-05 May.
3. FORECAST FOR HIGH RESOLUTION AEROMAGNETIC SURVEYS
Northern Australian Regions:
Mildly Disturbed Periods: None.
Best Quiet Periods: 13-17 Apr, 22-28 Apr, 04-06 May.
Central Australian Regions:
Disturbed Periods: None.
Mildly Disturbed Periods: 10-12 Apr, 18-21 Apr, 29-Apr to 03-May, 07-09 May.
Best Quiet Periods: 13-17 Apr, 22-28 Apr, 04-06 May.
Southern Australian Regions:
Disturbed Periods: 10-12 Apr, 18-21 Apr, 29-Apr to 03-May, 07-09 May.
Best Quiet Periods: 13-17 Apr, 22-28 Apr, 04-06 May.
Pc3 pulsations are high frequency (10-45 second period) variations
of the Earths magnetic field. Daily pc3-indices are the daily sum of
20 minute pc3-indices for that station and have been shown to be well
correlated with rejection of high resolution aeromagnetic survey
flight-line data.
PLEASE NOTE:
Geomagnetic activity can frequently be determined by short timescale
solar events that cannot be forecast a week in advance, particularly
at solar maximum.
