SUBJ: ASWFC WEEKLY GEOPHYSICAL REPORT
ISSUED ON 03 OCTOBER 2024
FROM THE AUSTRALIAN SPACE WEATHER FORECASTING CENTRE
ASWAS SCALE DESCRIPTION: https://bit.ly/3lmaMBx
1. SUMMARY (24 SEPTEMBER - 02 OCTOBER)
K indices are in UT (0-24). For conversion to local time:
AEST = UT + 10 hours; ACST = UT + 9.5 hours; AWST = UT + 8 hours
Australian Region*
Date K-INDICES A
24 Sep 4322 2223 11 In the BOM magnetometer data for 24
Sep, a weak (15nT) impulse was observed
at 0121UT and a weak (9nT) impulse
was observed at 0256UT.
25 Sep 4333 4433 19
26 Sep 3212 3101 6
27 Sep 1111 2000 2

30 Sep 3211 0222 6
01 Oct 2210 0223 5
02 Oct 2222 2012 5
*estimated from real time data
NOTE: Indices may have been generated from data obtained in
cooperation with the following organisations: Geoscience Australia,
University of Newcastle Space Physics Group, Australian Government
Antarctic Division and International Center for Space Weather
Science and Education, Japan.
Mostly G0 geomagnetic conditions were observed in the Australian region
throughout the period of 24-Sep to 02-Oct. Isolated periods of G1
conditions were observed at Learmonth, Hobart, Gingin and Cape Grim on
24-25 Sep.
2. FORECAST (03 OCTOBER - 02 NOVEMBER)
Disturbed Periods:
03-06 Oct, 12-15 Oct, 20-22 Oct and 26-Oct
Best Quiet Periods:
08-10 Oct, 17-18 Oct, 24-Oct, and 28-Oct to 02-Nov.
3. FORECAST FOR HIGH RESOLUTION AEROMAGNETIC SURVEYS
Northern Australian Regions:
Mildly Disturbed Periods: 03-05 Oct.
Best Quiet Periods: 07-Oct to 02-Nov.
Central Australian Regions:
Disturbed Periods: 03-05 Oct.
Best Quiet Periods: 07-12 Oct and 16-Oct to 02-Nov.
Southern Australian Regions:
Disturbed Periods: 03-06 Oct and 14-Oct
Best Quiet Periods: 08-12 Oct and 16-Oct to 02-Nov.
Pc3 pulsations are high frequency (10-45 second period) variations
of the Earths magnetic field. Daily pc3-indices are the daily sum of
20 minute pc3-indices for that station and have been shown to be well
correlated with rejection of high resolution aeromagnetic survey
flight-line data.
PLEASE NOTE:
Geomagnetic activity can frequently be determined by short timescale
solar events that cannot be forecast a week in advance, particularly
at solar maximum.
