A coronal mass ejection (CME) shock arrival was observed in the solar
wind at 10/1447UT. An increase in geomagnetic activity followed, with
G4 planetary conditions observed. G3 geomagnetic conditions have been
observed in the Australian region. Solar activity on UT day 11-Oct is
expected to be at R1-R2 levels. The solar wind speed is expected to be
very strong. G4 geomagnetic conditions are expected, with a chance of
G5 due to ongoing CME effects. S1 solar radiation storm conditions are
expected. HF radio communication conditions are expected to be poor.
Maximum useable frequencies (MUFs) are expected to be 20-40%
depressed. Shortwave fadeouts are possible. Auroras may be sighted at
middle to high latitudes during local night hours.
