A CME shock arrival has been observed in the solar wind at 10/1450UT.
The solar wind speed became very strong increasing from 460km/sec to
775km/sec. The north-south component of the interplanetary magnetic
field became southward falling to -25nT post shock arrival and is
currently orientated southward at -20nT. An increase in geomagnetic
activity has followed the CME shock arrival reaching planetary G4
conditions with G3 conditions observed for the Australian region at
10/1800UT. An in progress solar radiation storm has peaked at S3 at
10/1515UT and is currently declining at S2. On UT day 10-Oct solar
activity is expected to be R1-R3. The solar wind is expected to become
strong. G3-G4 geomagnetic conditions are expected later in the UT day.
HF radio communication conditions are expected to become degraded with
the onset of the geomagnetic activity. Maximum usable frequencies are
expected to be near predicted values to 30% depressed. S1-S2 solar
radiation storm conditions are expected with a chance for S3. Auroras
may be seen at high to middle latitudes during local night hours.
Shortwave fadeouts are probable.
