CME associated with the September 29 filament eruption was detected at
the SOHO spacecraft at 02/0124UT. This was earlier than expected. Upon
arrival the solar wind jump from 400km/s to 600km/s and is expected to
slowly decline over the next 24 hours. The magnetic storm commenced at
approximately 0200UT and elevated to major storm levels around 0530UT.
Due to the early arrival during the Australian region local daytime
hours there is less likely to be an auroral display tonight. Solar
activity remains low. Geomagnetic conditions expected to range from
active to quiet levels during the next 24 hours. High-frequency
conditions were initially enhanced during the local day time hours and
depressed during the local night time hours in the Australian region
due to the geomagnetic activity. HF radio communications are expected
to return to normal today.
