Wed Oct 24 10:33:20 EST 2012
An X-ray flare of X class magnitude occurred at around 2pm AEST on the
23rd of October. This briefly caused a significant loss of bandwidth
for high frequency radio communications with the worst effects seen at
Darwin. Further M and X class flares may be expected over the next few
days which may cause further disruption if they occur during local
daytime. There was no coronal mass ejection associated with this
flare. Solar wind conditions are ambient and geomagnetic conditions
are Quiet. The maximum useable frequency for high frequency radio
communication remains at normal to enhanced levels due to the
continued high levels of ionising solar EUV flux.
