Solar activity was at mostly low to moderate levels this month,
with 21 M class events observed. High activity was observed on
09 Jan, due to an M9.5 flare, the largest for the month.

10 Jan 02: Initially quiet, Major Storm conditions followed
a 44nT impulse 1619UT.
11 Jan 02: Initially unsettled, Minor Storm conditions followed
a 16nT impulse at 0741UT.
12-13 Jan 02 Unsettled to Active
19 Jan 02: Initially quiet, Active conditions followed a 15nT
impulse at 1432 UT.
21 Jan 02: Unsettled
25 Jan 02: Quiet to Active
31 Jan 02: Active period followed a 8nT impulse at 2126UT.
The strongest disturbed days this month were observed on 10 and
11 Jan, with an regional A index of 26 observed on both days.

4. IONOSPHERIC DISTURBANCES (for Australian Region)
11 Jan 02 Southern region MUFs depressed 15% early in UT day.
13 Jan 02 Southern region MUFs depressed 15%.
19-20 Jan 02 Southern region MUFs depressed 15% at times.
MUFs in the Australian and New Zealand region were generally
near to 15% above predicted monthly values. Mildly degraded
HF conditions may have been experienced on 11,13, and 19-20 Jan.
