* = New data. T index may have changed.
^ = IPS predicted T index.
The IPS Monthly T-index is derived from the observed monthly
median values of foF2 for each hour at up to 40 ionospheric
stations worldwide. These records become available from IPS
stations in Australia very soon after each month, but the
majority are received up to one year later. This means that
the exact observed value of the monthly T-index is not
available until some months later.
The predicted smoothed monthly T-indices are computed by
using a statistical analysis of the observed monthly T-indices
for all solar cycles since 1938. The IPS T-indices may not be
updated each month but only when sufficient new
data becomes available.

2.1 Comments on Solar Activity.
High solar activity was observed on 13,15,22 and 23 June,
with low to moderate levels observed on other days. A total of
13 flares was observed during the month, the largest being an
impulsive X1.2 at 0408UT on 23 June. A proton event was
observed from 15/1835UT to 16/1240UT.

3. GEOMAGNETIC DISTURBANCES (for Australian Region)
DATE COMMENTS
02 Jun 01: Quet to Active
09 Jun 01: Unsettled to Active
18 Jun 01: Active to Minor Storm
No strong geomagnetic storm activity was observed this month.
The most significant activity for the month was observed on 18 June
following a shock in the solar wind at 0153UT on 18 June. The
Australian regional A index reached 20 on this day. A weak coronal
hole pattern appears to have extended mild activity over 19-21 June.
A weak shock was also observed in the solar wind at 0851UT on 07 June,
However no significant activity followed this shock. Mild activity
on 02 June is believed associated with a coronal hole. Very mild activity,
with unsettled levels, was observed during 24-26 June is also believed
to be coronal hole related.
===============================================================================
4. IONOSPHERIC DISTURBANCES (for Australian Region)
No significant ionospheric depressions were observed this month.
However, degraded HF communications quality may have been
experienced during local night hours 1-2, 18-19, 24-26 June,
particularly for southern region Aus/NZ.
