THE NORTH-SOUTH COMPONENT OF THE INTERPLANETARY
MAGNETIC FIELD BECAME UNEXPECTEDLY SOUTHWARD BY 
UP TO 10nT AFTER AROUND 19UT 27 DEC.

INCREASED GEOMAGNETIC ACTIVITY EXPECTED
FIRST HALF 28 DECEMBER 2003 IF SOUTHWARD 
IMF CONDITIONS PERSIST. ORIGIN OF ACTIVITY
UNCLEAR.
