SUBJ: IPS GEOMAGNETIC DISTURBANCE WARNING 02/20
ISSUED AT 02/0103Z JUNE 2002
BY THE AUSTRALIAN SPACE FORECAST CENTRE.
TWO RECENT TYPE II RADIO SWEEPS HAVE BEEN OBSERVED FROM
SOLAR REGION 9973 IN THE SUNS SOUTH-EAST QUADRANT.
NO LASCO IMAGERY AVAILABLE TO CONFIRM CME DIRECTION.
DUE TO REGIONS PRESENT LOCATION AT EAST 23, IT IS
ASSUMED MASS EJECTION WILL BE BIASED EASTWARD.
HOWEVER, IT IS LIKELY THAT SOME FRACTION OF THESE EVENTS
WILL IMPACT THE EARTH.
SOLAR REGION 9979 TO EAST OF 9973 HAS MASS EJECTION
POTENTIAL.
BE ADVISED THAT REGIONS 9973 AND 9979 WILL
BE ROTATING INTO A MORE GEOEFFECTIVE LOCATION OVER THE
NEXT FEW DAYS, INCREASING THE GEOEFFECTIVENESS OF ANY SUBSEQUENT
MASS EJECTIONS.
