SUBJ: IPS GEOMAGNETIC DISTURBANCE WARNING 01/22
ISSUED AT 25/2308Z JUNE 2001
BY THE AUSTRALIAN SPACE FORECAST CENTRE.
REVIEWING LASCO DIFFERENCE IMAGERY, IT APPEARS THAT
THERE WAS A WEAK HALO MASS EJECTION IN C3 IMAGERY AROUND 08UT
ON 24 JUNE. TWO CANDIDATE C3 FLARES OCCCURED AROUND 0635UT AND
0722UT ON 24 JUNE. IF THE MASS EJECTION WAS A FRONT DISK EVENT
AND ASSOCIATED WITH EITHER OF THESE FLARE EVENTS THEN A WEAK
SHOCK ARRIVAL IS PROBABLE FROM 22UT ON 26 JUNE TO 10UT ON 27
JUNE. ALSO, ACE EPAM PRECURSOR DATA SHOWS AN INCREASING TREND.
A LARGE ISOLATED CORONAL HOLE WHICH WAS VISIBLE ON YOHKOH SOFT
XRAY IMAGES ON 29 MAY, APPEARS TO HAVE MOSTLY CLOSED ON IMAGES
ON 25 JUNE. CORONAL HOLE EFFECTS ON THIS ROTATION ARE EXPECTED
TO BE MUCH REDUCED.
INCREASED GEOMAGNETIC ACTIVITY EXPECTED
FROM 27-29 JUNE 2001
