COMMENT: Solar flare activity on UT day 02-Aug was at the R0
level, with only C-class flares observed, the largest of which
was a C6.3 at 02/0535UT from beyond the western limb. There are
currently six numbered sunspot regions visible on the solar disk.
Active region (AR) 4498 (N14E01, beta-gamma) remains the most
magnetically complex on the disk and has exhibited growth in
its trailer spots over the UT day. AR 4499 (N04W31, beta) has
shown mild growth in its leader spot. All other regions are either
stable or in decay. Solar flare activity is expected to be at
R0-R1 levels over 03-05 Aug, primarily due to the magnetic complexity
of region 4498. S0 solar radiation storm conditions were observed
on UT day 02-Aug, with the proton flux continuing to gradually
decline. S0 solar radiation storm conditions are expected over
03-05 Aug. No Earth-directed coronal mass ejections (CMEs) have
been observed. The solar wind speed on UT day 02-Aug increased,
ranging between 265 and 440 km/s, and is currently near 410 km/s.
A solar wind shock was observed in the solar wind parameters
at 02/1129UT, indicative of the arrival of a CME first observed
on 30-Jul. The peak total interplanetary magnetic field strength
(IMF, Bt) was 22 nT and the north-south IMF component (Bz) range
was -17 to +12 nT. A period of sustained southward IMF conditions
was observed over the interval 02/1347-1828UT. The solar wind
speed is expected to remain elevated on 03-Aug, then decrease
over 04-05 Aug as CME effects abate.

of the Earths magnetic field. Daily pc3-indices are the daily sum
of 20 minute pc3-indices for that station and have been shown to be
well correlated with rejection of high resolution aeromagnetic
survey flight-line data.
NOTE: Indices may have been generated from data obtained in
cooperation with the following organisations: Geoscience Australia,
University of Newcastle Space Physics Group, Australian Government
Antarctic Division and International Center for Space Weather
Science and Education, Japan.

COMMENT: G0 geomagnetic conditions were observed in the Australian
region on UT day 02-Aug. G2 geomagnetic conditions were observed
at the planetary level due to the arrival of a CME first observed
on 30-Jul. A 10 nT sudden impulse was detected in BOM magnetometer
data at 02/1225UT, confirming the arrival of the CME at Earth.
G1 geomagnetic conditions were observed in the Antarctic region.
G0-G1 planetary geomagnetic conditions are expected on 03-Aug
due to ongoing CME effects. G0 geomagnetic conditions are expected
over 04-05 Aug.

COMMENT: Global high-frequency (HF) radio propagation conditions
were mostly normal on UT day 02-Aug, with some degradations observed
in southern hemisphere regions over the UT day. Global HF propagation
conditions expected to be normal to fair on 03-Aug due to forecast
geomagnetic activity. Conditions are expected to return to mostly
normal over 04-05 Aug. Shortwave fadeouts are possible.
