COMMENT: Solar activity was low on UT day 13 August. A C1.4 flare
was observed at 13/21:08 UT. There is currently one numbered
region on the visible disk. Solar activity is expected to be
very low on UT days 14 to 16 August. No Earth directed CMEs have
been observed in the available coronagraph images during the
last 24 hours. On 13 August, the solar wind speed first decreased
gradually from 380 to 350 km/s and then increased to 462 by 14:26
UT. The solar wind speed again showed a decrease and was at 415
km/s around 23:00 UT. On this day, the total IMF (Bt) varied
between 2 and 8 nT and the north-south IMF (Bz) component range
was +5/-4 nT. The solar wind speed is expected to be mostly near
background levels on UT days 14 to 16 August with small possibility
of occasional minor enhancements on 14 and 15 August.

Observed Regional daily pc3 Indices 13 Aug :
      Darwin 0 (Quiet)
      Townsville 0 (Quiet)

      Canberra 0 (Quiet)
      Hobart 0 (Quiet)

Pc3 pulsations are high frequency (10-45 second period) variations
of the Earths magnetic field. Daily pc3-indices are the daily sum
of 20 minute pc3-indices for that station and have been shown to be
well correlated with rejection of high resolution aeromagnetic
survey flight-line data.

NOTE: Indices may have been generated from data obtained in
cooperation with the following organisations: Geoscience Australia,
University of Newcastle Space Physics Group, Australian Government
Antarctic Division and International Center for Space Weather
Science and Education, Japan.

2B. MAGNETIC FORECAST
Date Ap Conditions
14 Aug 7 Mostly quiet, isolated unsettled periods possible
15 Aug 7 Mostly quiet, isolated unsettled periods possible
16 Aug 5 Quiet

COMMENT: Geomagnetic activity in the Australian and the Antarctic
regions was mostly quiet with some unsettled periods on UT day
13 August. Global geomagnetic activity is expected to stay mostly
at quiet levels on UT days 14 to 16 August with small possibility
of some unsettled periods on UT days 14 and 15 August due to
small possibility of some solar wind streams from the north-pole
coronal hole to connect with the Earth.
