2. Aurora seen from Fairhaven, Victoria (GPS reading: 38 degrees, 27 mins,
82 secs South, 144 degrees, 05 mins, 72 secs East) at 12.30am ESummerT on
Friday 6 October 2000 (ie 1330 hrs UT on Thursday, 5 October 2000).
We watched for 45 minutes as a red glow continued to increase and decrease
in different parts of the auroral field which occupied approximately a 40
degree arc in the sky. Superimposed on this were tall pillars of white
light (some reaching to the zenith) which were of changing intensity.
