Dear STSP folks

Please note that this year's Canberra International Physics Summer
School (see http://wwwrsphysse.anu.edu.au/~ccs106/SUMMERSCHOOLS/SS22/index.html)
  includes lectures by

Prof Richard Dendy, University of Warwick and UKAEA Culham Lab (UK)
Fusion, Space and Solar Plasmas as Complex Systems

Dr Mike Wheatland, School of Physics, University of Sydney
Bayesian Data Analysis

That should be of direct interest to STSP.

Please encourage students and others to attend.

	Many thanks ... Bob Dewar

You are invited to participate in the 22nd Canberra International
Physics Summer School on

8-19 December 2008

The Canberra International Physics Summer Schools

Since 1988 the Canberra International Physics Summer Schools have
provided intensive, first-class training in topical areas of physics
that are not covered in many senior undergraduate programs. For this
reason, the Summer Schools have proved very beneficial for senior
undergraduate and postgraduate students and early-career researchers
from universities and research organisations. The 2008 Summer School
continues this tradition.

Aims and Scope

The 2008 Summer School covers a wide range of topics in complex
physical, biophysical and econophysical systems. The Summer School
brings together leading international and Australian experts in
complex systems science to provide students with a broad introduction
to this exciting field.

During the afternoon program, the students will be guided through
computer-based projects that integrate key ideas from complex systems
and introduce some of the current software tools.

Students will also become part of the ARC Complex Open Systems
Research Network (COSNet) which provides links to researchers around
Australia and the world.

Target Participants

The Summer School is targeted towards 3rd and 4th year undergraduates,
Masters and PhD students and professional researchers. The level of
exposition will be senior undergraduate or beginning postgraduate. We
welcome participation by students from both Australian and foreign
Free board and lodging accommodation will be provided to out-of-town

All intending participants must complete the registration form, which
can be found on the summer school homepage, by November 10th.
The capacity of the Summer School venue is limited and places will be
filled on a first-come, first-served basis.
Please visit the summer school homepage for registration details and
information on student travel scholarships.

Early registration is advised!
