Feel free to look at the web pages of the conference at : http://www.isema2003.org Can I ask you a favour, please? Can you post this advertisement to all prospective participants of your organisation. FIRST ANNOUNCEMENT AND CALL FOR PAPERS Fifth International Conference on Electromagnetic Wave Interaction with Water and Moist Substances Organised by the International Society for ElectroMagnetic Aquametry (ISEMA) in association with Industrial Research Limited To be held at the Novotel Hotel, Rotorua, New Zealand Monday, March 24 - Wednesday, March 26, 2003. The conference will address all problems that are relevant to both physical concepts and to technological aspects of practical implementation of microwave and RF measurement techniques for determining the amount of water in moist substances. The conference will concentrate on, but not limited to, the following topics: Dielectric properties of water in various degrees of binding Dielectric relaxation properties of water in biological substances Static and dynamic moisture determination in grain and agricultural/horticultural products Time domain reflectometry techniques for water content measurements RF and microwave sensors for moisture content determination in solids and liquids Metrological basis for multiparameter electrical moisture content measurements. Any other related topic The conference is organised to stimulate the maximum discussion on using the RF and microwave theory and techniques for nonmilitary and noncommunication applications. Contributed papers describing original work, as well as short notes and comments on the topics listed above, are solicited, but any paper concerned with application and utilisation of RF and microwave techniques for microwave moisture content determination and control is appropriate and will be considered for presentation. Deadline for submission of one page abstract: July 15, 2002. The abstracts must be written in English. All accepted papers will be published in the conference proceedings. Camera-ready copy of the accepted presentations should be submitted before the end of October 2002. The National Committee for Radio Science (NCRS) is very happy to announce that Australia will be represented by four Young Scientists at the forthcoming URSI General Assembly. All four have successfully competed in an international field to obtain their Young Scientist awards. The successful candidates are: Mr. Aaron P. Chippendale (Commission J) CSIRO Australia Telescope National Facility, Epping, NSW. Mr. Clayton R. Locke (Commission A) Physics Department, University of Western Australia. Ms. Melanie Johnston-Hollit (Commission J) Department of Physics and Mathematical Physics, Adelaide University. Dr. Steven J. Tingay (Commission J) Australia Telescope National Facility, Narrabri, NSW. At each URSI General Assembly a number of these Awards are made to facilitate the attendance of young scientists at URSI Assemblies. The awards do not cover travel to and from the Assembly, but they do cover the Assembly registration fees, moderate priced accommodation and lodging. The awards are made on the basis of the candidates past research output, academic qualifications, and the paper they would present at the Assembly if successful. The judgements are made both within Australia and internationally. The candidates applications are first ranked locally, based on our knowledge of their work and then these rankings, together with the candidates' applications are judged by an international panel, appointed by URSI, who make the final awards. We wish all four successful candidates an enjoyable General Assembly. best wishes, Phil Wilkinson Chair, NCRS 15 April 2002 -- Dr Phil Wilkinson, IPS Radio and Space Services, Level 6, 477 Pitt St. Postal Address: IPS, P O Box 1386, Haymarket, NSW 1240, AUSTRALIA. telephone: +61 2 9213 8003 Fax: +61 2 9213 8060 internet: phil at ips.gov.au IPS Homepage http: //www.ips.gov.au/ IPS ftp region ftp.ips.gov.au From phil at ips.gov.au Wed Dec 18 16:50:45 2002 From: phil at ips.gov.au (Phil Wilkinson) Date: Wed, 18 Dec 2002 16:50:45 +1100 (EST) Subject: [ncrs-general] NCRS Directory help requested Message-ID: <200212180550.QAA13285@corona.syd.ips.oz.au> Greetings All, The National Committee would like to develop a Web-based directory of people in Australia who have an interest in Radio Science. Many of you will remember the very useful Yellow Book produced some years back. The Web directory will be an update of that directory. To help set up this directory, could you send me the following information: (a) Your personal Website address, if you have one, (b) The URSI Commission you are most directly interested in, (if you are not sure, leave this entry blank) (c) Your institute's web address, (d) a list of key areas that your institute is interested in (we will probably get more than one entry per institute and will pool the results). Thank you for your assistance. My very best wishes to you for the festive season, Phil Wilkinson Chair, NCRS -- Dr Phil Wilkinson, IPS Radio and Space Services, Level 6, 477 Pitt St. Postal Address: IPS, P O Box 1386, Haymarket, NSW 1240, AUSTRALIA. telephone: +61 2 9213 8003 Fax: +61 2 9213 8060 internet: phil at ips.gov.au IPS Homepage http: //www.ips.gov.au/ IPS ftp region ftp.ips.gov.au
