FROM THE AUSTRALIAN SPACE FORECAST CENTRE

1. SUMMARY (08 OCTOBER - 14 OCTOBER)

Solar:        Solar flare activity

Frequencies:  Australian ionospheric F2 critical frequencies

08 Oct 
Solar:        very low
Geomagnetic:  Quiet to unsettled with isolated active levels 
              at high latitudes. 

Frequencies:  
   Cocos Island Region:
      Near predicted monthly values with 15-25% depressions,
      00, 05 and 20-21 UT. Depressions to 45% 16-19 UT.
   Niue Island Region:
      Near predicted monthly values. Depressions to 30%, 12
      and 15-17 UT.
   Northern Australian Region:
      Depressions to 25%, 03-08 UT, to 45% 15-21 UT. Near
      predicted monthly values at other times.
   Southern Australian and New Zealand Region:
      Near predicted monthly values. Depressions to 25%,
      03-12 UT at Brisbane, 03-12 and 17-18, 22 UT at Norfolk
      Is. and 13-15 UT at Hobart. Spread F observed during
      night hours at Canberra, Hobart and Sydney.
   Antarctic Region (Casey/Scott Base/Davis/Mawson):
      Near predicted monthly values with occasional
      depressions to 30%.

09 Oct 
Solar:        very low
Geomagnetic:  Quiet to unsettled 

Frequencies:  
   Cocos Island Region:
      Depressions to 20% 00-08, 14, 21 UT, depressions to
      40% 15-20 UT, near predicted monthly values at other
      times.
   Niue Island Region:
      Near predicted monthly values to 25% enhanced 00-13
      UT, then depressed to 30% 14-21 UT.
   Northern Australian Region:
      Near predicted monthly values. Depressions to 30%
      03-05 and 15-22 UT at Darwin and Townsville.
   Southern Australian and New Zealand Region:
      Near predicted monthly values with depressions to 20%
      03-08 and 19-22 UT at Brisbane, and 25% 03-22 UT at
      Norfolk Is. Spread F observed 12-19 UT at Hobart.
   Antarctic Region (Casey/Scott Base/Davis/Mawson):
      Near predicted monthly values with depressions to 35%
      10, 13-18 UT at Macquarie Is.

Geomagnetic:  Quiet to unsettled

      Mostly 15-30% depressed.
   Niue Island Region:
      Near predicted monthly values with depressions to 30%
      00, 09-19, 23 UT.

      Near predicted monthly values. Depressions to 20%
      02-05 UT and enhancements to 30% 11-15 UT at Darwin.
      Depressions to 20% 02-05 and 12-14 UT at Townsville.
   Southern Australian and New Zealand Region:
      Near predicted monthly values. Depressions to 20%
      02-07 and 12-15 UT at Brisbane, 02-06, 10-14 and 20-23
      UT at Norfolk Is. Spread F observed 11-19 UT at Hobart.

Geomagnetic:  Quiet to Minor Storm 
A weak (12nT) impulse was observed in the IPS magnetometer data at
1235UT on 11 Oct.
Frequencies:  
   Cocos Island Region:
      Enhanced by 40% during local day,
      Enhanced by 45% during local night.
   Niue Island Region:
      Depressed by 25% during local day,
      Depressed by 15% during local night.
   Northern Australian Region:
      Near predicted monthly values.
   Southern Australian and New Zealand Region:
      Mostly near predicted monthly values,
      Depressed by 25% after local dawn.
   Antarctic Region (Casey/Scott Base/Davis/Mawson):
      Near predicted monthly values over the UT day.

12 Oct 
Solar:        very low
Geomagnetic:  Quiet to Unsettled 

Frequencies:  
   Cocos Island Region:
      Depressed by 25% during local day,
      Depressed by 35% during local night.
      Enhanced by 25% after local dawn.
