SUBJ: SWS WEEKLY GEOPHYSICAL REPORT
ISSUED ON 23 APRIL 2020, BY Space Weather Services,
FROM THE AUSTRALIAN SPACE FORECAST CENTRE
1. SUMMARY (14 APRIL - 22 APRIL)
K indices are in UT (0-24). For conversion to local time:
AEST = UT + 10 hours; ACST = UT + 9.5 hours; AWST = UT + 8 hours
Australian Region*
Date K-INDICES A
14 Apr 2221 0002 3
15 Apr 2211 1112 4
16 Apr 1110 0110 1
17 Apr 1100 1001 1
18 Apr 1221 0000 2
19 Apr 1100 0000 0
20 Apr 2233 5300 13 In the SWS magnetometer data for 20
Apr, a weak (10nT) impulse was observed
at 0232UT.
21 Apr 2222 3322 9
22 Apr 1111 3101 4
*estimated from real time data
NOTE: Indices may have been generated from data obtained in
cooperation with the following organisations: Geoscience Australia,
University of Newcastle Space Physics Group, Australian Government
Antarctic Division and International Center for Space Weather
Science and Education, Japan.
Mostly quiet to unsettled conditions in the Australian region through this
period. Isolated active and minor storm periods observed in this region on UT
day, 20 April.
2. FORECAST (23 APRIL - 23 MAY)
Disturbed Periods:
No strong recurrent patterns, however minor to mild activity may be experienced
on:
23 Apr, 26-27 Apr, 29-30 Apr, 5 May, 11 May, 17-18 May.
Best Quiet Periods:
24-25 Apr, 28 Apr, 1-4 May, 6-10 May, 12-16 May.
3. FORECAST FOR HIGH RESOLUTION AEROMAGNETIC SURVEYS
Northern Australian Regions: Quiet conditions throughout
Central Australian Regions: Quiet conditions throughout
Southern Australian Regions: Quiet conditions throughout
Pc3 pulsations are high frequency (10-45 second period) variations
of the Earths magnetic field. Daily pc3-indices are the daily sum of
20 minute pc3-indices for that station and have been shown to be well
correlated with rejection of high resolution aeromagnetic survey
flight-line data.
PLEASE NOTE:
Geomagnetic activity can frequently be determined by short timescale
solar events that cannot be forecast a week in advance, particularly
at solar maximum.
