SUBJ: IPS WEEKLY GEOPHYSICAL REPORT
ISSUED ON 20 AUGUST 2015, BY IPS RADIO AND SPACE SERVICES,
FROM THE AUSTRALIAN SPACE FORECAST CENTRE
1. SUMMARY (11 AUGUST - 19 AUGUST)
K indices are in UT (0-24). For conversion to local time:
AEST = UT + 10 hours; ACST = UT + 9.5 hours; AWST = UT + 8 hours
Australian Region*
Date K-INDICES A

*estimated from real time data
NOTE: Indices may have been generated from data obtained in
cooperation with the following organisations: Geoscience Australia,
University of Newcastle Space Physics Group, Australian Government
Antarctic Division and International Center for Space Weather
Science and Education, Japan.
Active to minor storm levels on 15-17 Aug. Quiet to unsettled on other days.
The 7-day outlook is for mildly distributed conditions on 20-21 Aug and then
latter during the week,
possibly between 24-26 Aug. These are due to two separate Coronal Holes taking
geoeffective position
on the solar disk. Quiet condition are forecasted on other days.
2. FORECAST (20 AUGUST - 19 SEPTEMBER)
Disturbed Periods:
27-28 Aug, 2-4 Sep, 10-15 Sep
Best Quiet Periods:
22-26 Aug, 29 Aug - 1 Sep, 5-9 Sep, 16-19 Sep.
3. FORECAST FOR HIGH RESOLUTION AEROMAGNETIC SURVEYS
Northern Australian Regions: All periods are considered to be Best Quiet.
Central Australian Regions:
Moderately Disturbed Periods: 20-22 Aug, 27-30 Aug, 2-6 Sep, 12-13 Sep, 16-17
Sep
Best Quiet Periods: 31 Aug - 1 Sep, 7-11 Sep, 14-15 Sep, 18-19 Sep
Southern Australian Regions:
Disturbed Periods: 20-22 Aug, 27-30 Aug, 2-6 Sep, 12-13 Sep, 16-17 Sep
Best Quiet Periods: 31 Aug - 1 Sep, 7-11 Sep, 14-15 Sep, 18-19 Sep
Pc3 pulsations are high frequency (10-45 second period) variations
of the Earths magnetic field. Daily pc3-indices are the daily sum of
20 minute pc3-indices for that station and have been shown to be well
correlated with rejection of high resolution aeromagnetic survey
flight-line data.
PLEASE NOTE:
Geomagnetic activity can frequently be determined by short timescale
solar events that cannot be forecast a week in advance, particularly
at solar maximum.
