SUBJ: IPS WEEKLY GEOPHYSICAL REPORT
ISSUED ON 24 MARCH 2011, BY IPS RADIO AND SPACE SERVICES,
FROM THE AUSTRALIAN SPACE FORECAST CENTRE
1. SUMMARY (15 MARCH - 23 MARCH)
K indices are in UT (0-24). For conversion to local time:
AEST = UT + 10 hours; ACST = UT + 9.5 hours; AWST = UT + 8 hours
Australian Region*

*estimated from real time data
NOTE: Indices may have been generated from data obtained in
cooperation with the following organisations: Geoscience Australia,
University of Newcastle Space Physics Group, Australian Government
Antarctic Division and Space Environment Research Center, Japan.
Quiet to Unsettled conditions observed for the last week. Quiet
to Unsettled conditions are expected for the next 7 days.
2. FORECAST (24 MARCH - 23 APRIL)
Disturbed Periods:
No strong recurrent patterns, however mild activity may be experienced on:
24 Mar to 25 Mar, 28 Mar to 31 Mar, 3 Apr, 6 Apr.
Best Quiet Periods:
26 Mar to 27 Mar, 1 Apr to 2 Apr, 4 Apr to 5 Apr, 7 Apr to 19 Apr.
3. FORECAST FOR HIGH RESOLUTION AEROMAGNETIC SURVEYS
Northern Australian Regions:
Disturbed Periods: None - Quiet.
Best Quiet Periods: 26 Mar to 2 Apr.
Central Australian Regions:
Disturbed Periods: Possible Mildly disturbed 24Mar-25-Mar.
Best Quiet Periods: 26 Mar to 2 Apr.
Southern Australian Regions:
Disturbed Periods: Midly Disturbed, possible Disturbed periods 24Mar-25Mar.
Best Quiet Periods: 26 Mar to 29 Mar, 1 Apr to 2 Apr.
Pc3 pulsations are high frequency (10-45 second period) variations
of the Earths magnetic field. Daily pc3-indices are the daily sum of
20 minute pc3-indices for that station and have been shown to be well
correlated with rejection of high resolution aeromagnetic survey
flight-line data.
PLEASE NOTE:
Geomagnetic activity can frequently be determined by short timescale
solar events that cannot be forecast a week in advance, particularly
at solar maximum.
